The Society of Hospital Medicine (SHM) recently named two new Masters in Hospital Medicine to honor those who have demonstrated a longstanding commitment to the principles of leadership, teamwork, and quality improvement within the specialty of hospital medicine. They join 37 other honorees for a total of 39 Masters in Hospital Medicine. Christopher Frost, MD, MHM, has been elected a Master in Hospital Medicine, honoring his dedication to the specialty and the Society as a medical leader.
“Becoming a Master in Hospital Medicine is among the highest honors in the field and demonstrates a significant impact on the specialty and healthcare as a whole,” notes Eric E. Howell, MD, MHM, Chief Executive Officer of the Society of Hospital Medicine. “Our newest inductees are hospital medicine visionaries whose passion has inspired innovations that help to transform patient care for all populations.”
Dr. Frost completed his combined internal medicine and pediatrics residency at University of Tennessee Health Science Center, where he also served as chief resident in internal medicine. He currently serves as LifePoint Health National Medical Director of Hospital-Based Services in Brentwood, Tennessee.

Dr. Frost served on SHM’s Board of Directors for six years, including one as president. During his year as president, he was instrumental in steering SHM through the initial wave of the pandemic, preparing the society for the challenges to come. He also guided the organization’s CEO search, leading to Dr. Eric Howell assuming the role. He also helped establish SHM’s role in population health during this tenure.
He has also held a variety of positions within the Society, including as Leadership Academy facilitator over a dozen times, serving on the Practice Management Committee, NP/PA Special Interest Group (SIG), Rural Hospital Medicine SIG, Opioid Task Force Work Group, and More.
