Society of Hospital Medicine Brings Annual Conference to Orlando

Largest Conference Dedicated to Hospital Medicine to Feature 5 New Tracks, Refreshed Approach to Content Search for 2019 Conference

The Society of Hospital Medicine (SHM) will host its annual conference, Hospital Medicine 2018 (HM18), at the Orlando World Center Marriott in Orlando, Florida from April 8 to 11, 2018. HM18 is the largest national gathering of hospitalists in the United States, offering a comprehensive array of educational and networking opportunities designed specifically for the hospital medicine professional. SHM welcomes Kate Goodrich, MD, MHS, Director, Center for Clinical Standards and Quality, and Chief Medical Officer, Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), Robert M. Wachter, MD, MHM, Professor and Chair of the Department of Medicine at the University of California, San Francisco as its featured keynote speakers.

“New this year is a focus on careers and how to make yours enjoyable and sustainable,” says Kathleen Finn, MD, SFHM, course director for HM18. “Hospital medicine is more than 20 years old, and there are increasing numbers of mid-career hospitalists. The Career Development track offers a series of topics in case you want to spice up your current role, change your schedule or plan for retirement. Accompanying this are career development workshops that provide practical skills to do just that.”

Along with the Career Development track, there are four additional new tracks, including The Great Debate, Palliative Care, Seasoning Your Career and a track specifically for Nurse Practitioners and Physician Assistants. The Great Debate track pairs two talented speakers to debate cutting-edge clinical decisions on the front lines. The two speakers review the latest literature and discuss best practices, and the audience then votes on a winner.
